Thanks to everyone who arranged and took part in the tours of the school on 10th June. I had a great time reminiscing about all my old pals and teachers and met some old friends too. ill be very sorry to see the old place gone, but I will always have some great memories to take with me wherever I go.

PS To Bernie McGurk : hows Macedonia treating you mate? hope your keeping well and the familys good too. Say hello to Gerry from me and from Jim too, who was asking about you 2 recently.

HAVE TO SAY THE RECENT PERFOMANCE OF THE CANTERBURY TALES WAS BRILLIANT - SUCH A LAUGH - AND A HUGE WELL DONE TO MY NEPHEW DAVID FOR HIS EXCELLENT "DRUNKEN MILLER" ACT (CAN'T IMAGINE WHERE HE GOT HIS INSPIRATION FROM!!) V PROUD OF YOU!

I had great night on Saturday at the final feast of St. Modan, thanks for organising it. It was great to meet up with some past pupils and to do a tour of the old school, leaving the gym block, which was my spiritual home, until the end, and great to meet Mr Bill Black, who was a very insprational teacher.

Also old memories of other teachers such as, Johnny Beak, Flexi Mcgrath, Maggie Tarzan, Ollie Olzyk(sp) Suzi Mc Monagle, Dennis Canavan, The Mighty Quinn, Wee Barney, Johnny Page, Mr McGhee, Mr Murray, Miss Ascough, Spud Murphy, Miss Retson, Archie Lafferty, Mrs Kurchin, and many more...all of them inspired many of us who went through St. Modans to raise our sights and taught us that anything was possible regardless of background or circumstances. Somehow they saw the spark and nurtured it.

. All the best for your new location, I hope that the standards are maintained or indeed exceeded.

Good luck on the move to the new school..had some great memories of the old skool from 1980-84...dont suppose theres many teachers left there now that remember any the Mackin bhoys..if i'm right, think there was Mackin's attending in every decade up till the late 80's..

Hi, I just wanted to say what a fantastic evening the Final Bash was. It was a bit strange, and slightly emotional doing the tour, so many memories and i think a real shame knowing that the old school was going.

However, a huge well done to the organisers for a brilliant evening. Catching up with so many "old faces" was fantastic.
A great end to a great school (that shouldnt really be ending in my opinion!!).

Just wanted to say a big HELLOOOOO to all cast and crew of The Canterbury Tales 2008. It was amazing to part of such a fantastic production. Missing it so much already!!
The Cast were fantastic and should all be proud of themselves. I feel very lucky to have had the chance to watch it all three nights!

And i would like to take a moment to thank Mr. Kelly for the wonderful roman centurian hat he let me steal from his room on thursday. I shall treasure it always Sir!

I wasn't sure what to expect but I thoroughly enjoyed the Canterbury Tales. The show was superb - very funny and very well delivered. A huge mount of work must have gone into making this so professional It was great to see so many pupils involved and getting into the part especially Alex dressed as a woman and the rooster - well done to all involved.

I was there last night for the visit with my brother James. We were both pupils in the sixties. I was amazed that I could still find my way around (the old part) after so long and pleased to see Mr. Gray (Technical Drawing) and Mr. Farmer (Music) who taught us back then. My brother and I are so glad we were able to attend the open night.

Sadly I cant attend the "final walk" as I now live too far away but I would love to have gone, i feel sad that neither my primary or high school remain to show to my children when they are older. I think It would be a great idea and a fitting tribute for the teaching team to take some photos of the key areas of the school and post them to their website to allow those of us who cant attend to join in from afar!!

Can't wait to see the old school one last time. I have such good memories from my time there of pupils and teachers so I really hope there are going to be lots of them there. I'll be coming with Elizabeth Reynolds and I'm going to speak to Joe Lafferty this week to see if he will come too.
Just wish we had got tickets for the Dinner Dance so if anyone has any spares I'd love to hear from you.
Looking forward to seeing some old faces on the 10th June who attended St Modan's between 1965 and 1975.
If anyone wants to get in touch before then, it would be great to hear from you. Maybe it's about time for another year reunion. What do you think?

See you on the 10th June

Glad that the school is hosting a "last tour" on the 10th. June. I must come along and wander the bright ,welcoming, corridors once again and fill my lungs once more with the slightly "Dettol" tinged air!! I hope that the other Mr. Kelly (Owen) rounds up the 6th. year (scholars) who left in 1975, Harrower,Corrieri, Pollock, Gallagher, Docherty, Giannandrea,Kennedy, Freer, Boyle, Coll, O'Carroll,Kinross,Tortolano,Petale, Cooper, and any other miscreant that has escaped my memory! I have just realised the above list sounds like a team sheet for a Celtic/Inter Milan old boy's select!!!! the only footballer amongst us was Andy. Kennedy who famously left half of his pate on the ceiling tiles in the sixth year common room, whilst demonstrating a flying header scored against St. Mungo HS, his hairdo was never quite the same again.Talking of hairdo's, can't wait to see if Tom Coll's perm. has come back in to fashion again, and if Joe Harrower has grown any taller than the 5'4"he was when he left school!! Looking forward to reliving some memories of the old place, although it was quite bizarre to watch Mr. Kelly some 5 years ago, during a quick visit, wagging his finger at a 2nd year pupil outside Home Ec. he does know the name of every single pupil, which proves that his recall has improved over the years. And whatever we do, don't mention The Beatles, we'll be there all night!!!!!!

Some changes are necessary to the school calendar due to migration plans for moving to the new school - please keep an eye on our News section for updates. Unfortunately it has been necessary to change the dates of some events taking place in the last 2 weeks of the Summer Term - The Final Tour is now moved to Tuesday 10th June. This should not be confused with the 'Feast of St Modan' Dinner Dance & Tour which is confirmed for Saturday 21st June as planned.

Had been contacted recently by many ex pupils regarding the school being knocked down etc. I would just like to say that my time at St Modan's was without a doubt crazy, educational and totally life changing. Thanks to all the teachers who had either the fortunate or unfortunate task of teaching me. Anyone wishing to contact me do so via me email. Around 10 ex pupils i know will all be attending the tour on 25th June all would have been pupils between 87 to 95.

Hi school..........
For some reason no one told me there was a new school! Then no one bothered to tell me the old one was coming down!
What in the name o mr blacks white trainers is goin on?
I had a sudden urge while skyvin in work to find out bout the school and there it is......when does it come down?
God, I'd love to smell the 'just made toast' smell of the Techy department again, maybe even break into the tuck shop.
I actually live in Dubai, so I sadly wont be there for any final curtain thing so i would love to take this opportunity to thank all the teachers that taught me when I was there. in particular Mr Waller and Mrs McMenemy from Art and Mr Dougan at Tech....I can do those section drawings better than ever sir!!
Also to Mrs Macartney, despite my standard grade 4 in a higher class, I have spent many good periods actually living in France and speaking the language rather well! thanks....
Mr Lennon, although you were only there for a year while I was there, you had great methods on education and vision for a better system, which you set about with a special energy,so I'm proud of you that the school is moving forward in this direction.
God bless.
Gregor.(91-97)

I was a pupil at St. Modan's from 1960 till '64, with a short break of a year or so at St. Mary's Blairs. I cannot say "studied" at St.Modan's because despite the efforts of some great teachers, my head was usually under my wing, my wooly mind in cuckoo - land! Fitzi, I am pretty sure I knew you at school, and definitely "Sammy" Henderson, as I recall, said Sammy was a very good football player, as was Eddie O' Donnel, who played pro for Falkirk.

Miss O'Hara strived to teach me French, without a lot of success, Mr. Sykes succeeded in failing to teach me both Russian and French! " Barney" O'Sullivan did his best with Geography, but in my imagination, I was in some foreign land while poor Mr. O'S was trying to introduce me to the joys of a different foreign land. He did excite my interest in rugby, though to the extent that I was part of a group that he took mid afternoon to Murrayfield to watch a game involving the DA DA's or Ma Ma's or some such. My interest was not so great - tried to learn the finer points of the game.....however, I WAS very interested in missing double Maths that day, "taught" by miss Sullivan!!

My best pal was John Ross, now of sacred memory. John introduced me to Spike Milligan and the Goons and to Glasgow Celtic, sometimes all three seem interchangeable!! I' m an attendee to the this day R.I.P. John. I served holy Mass every Friday in the assembly hall, Mr. McCann, who was lovingly bestowed the name of a character from the Eagle comic's Dan Dare series, was usually the other server. When, Fergus "sacked the board" I boasted to my terracing pals" Huh! Fergus McCann...served Mass wi' his faither!" Mind you, it was all I could boast about, as my sum total of "O" levels was 3, French, English and History. which meant I could swear in French and English and knew the historical reasons why I should. But, of course, the moral guidance of Mr. Lafferty's R.E. class, meant I knew better than to swear.

I have spent my life working at sea or in some marine capacity but wish I'd stuck into Geography though, as half the time I didn't know which part of the planet I was visiting...I could write a book though.." Great Distilleries I have visited!"
Joe Lemmetti from Camelon was in some of my classes.

Around the 70's, I met my wife to be on the last train from Glasgow, she Falkirk bound, while I was quite happy to just avoid being bound over, as I was making my way home at the time from 10 o'clock Mass that morning, seeing off the earthly remains of my uncle James. My best man, Eddie McGloin, class mate of aforesaid Fergus, says to this day that she wishes she'd gone home by bus, but we're still married, anyway, and happy enough. We live in Oban, now, almost on the shores of Loch ETIVE, in the shadow of ARDCHATTEN Priory. I have also worked installing a sub sea pipline in the Clyde, terminating on the shore at ROSENEATH - All three were school houses at the time. Don't know if they still are.

I didn't really "like" school per se. I took a long time to put aside childish things, so didn't maximise the opportunity to avail myself of the educational opportunities St. Modan's clearly offered. However, I always felt safe, and loved and wanted. I always knew through the mists of a clouded mind that what people like Miss Mac Namee and Mr. Pollock were trying to communicate was really good for me, I just couldn't quite march in step to their tune. But thanks for trying.

The important moral milestones these kindly people erected for me, reinforced those my mum and dad had laid out for me and stood me in great stead...maybe ...definitely...more important than academic success. So Modos Odens Vanos...sorry Miss Cameron, I failed "O" level Latin too, and I never really knew what the school motto meant!!
I do know the Cattigan twins were the strongest boys in my year...clever with it too!! God Bless, St Modan's, staff, pupils, FP's and administrators, keep up the good work in your new locale. Liam Griffin

Hi guys, just having a walk down memory lane and thought I would leave a comment. I like the rest of the FP's can't believe that the old place will be torn down in the next few months. Spent 6 years at the place and still have fond memories! If the teachers read this then would like to say hi to my former lunch time badminton buddies (Stephen and Liam how you doing!)
Would definitely like a last look round the place before they tear it down if there is an opportunity that would be great! Also like to say hi to anyone else who remembers me (class of '90)

As a past student at St. Modans,1968 -1974, I would love to wander the corridors again before it closes. I have fond memories of the school and some of characters who were students alongside me. Blowing your fag smoke out of the 6th form common room thinking noone would notice. There were many teachers in that era who were both feared and idolised. Some were just plain nutcases who should never have been teaching children in the first place. These were the days you were belted for forgetting your apron in Domestic Studies-who needed one to boil an egg!!

I have just discovered this wonderful site. To say I am an old boy is putting it mildly. I attended this great school from 1958 to 1963. The rector in those days was the great Mr. Alan McCann who encouraged us all to succeed with compassion and wisdom. Mr. McCann's son Fergus bought Celtic Football Club at a time when the Hoops needed saving. I would love to hear from FPs of that time including Pat Murphy who tried to teach his colleagues the finer points of Cricket and is now a senior sports reporter on Five live. I would also through your site like to hear from any of the Kilsyth guys who visit this site. I could go on but will end not by refering to the teachers who had the thankless task of educating us but to the great friendships we had, namely Tommy Kennedy from Bonnybridge, Stewart (Sammy)Henderson from Denny and Barry ( Hovis) Brown from Stirling. The "End of an Era " sounds like a great event and I will do my best to attend. Best regards to all Fitzi

Hi all, pupils and teachers alike, I was a student at the great St.Modans between 1989 - 93 and I must say I thoroughly enjoyed every last moment of my schooling. The Teachers and the Pupils were I must say the best people I have came into contact with in my life ( excluding relatives ). I used to be the treasurer for the St.Vincent De'Paul Society along with Tony Lai, Michael McKormack, John McNiven and David Loney, oh and Paul McLung. This was just one of the many organisations I was in which made the school. I also had numerous teachers whom I can mention and would appreciate if someone could E-Mail me and tell me if any are still there or god forbid any has perished in the past years!!. Here they are :

ART : Mrs McMenemy, Miss Skelton and Mr Waller
MODERN STUDIES : Mr Cusack and Mr Quigley
GEOGRAPHY : Mr Japp
FRENCH : Mr Black and Mrs Campbell
CRAFT AND DESIGN : Mr Docherty and Mr Dougan
MATHs : Mrs Bridie and Mr Smiley and Mr McKenna
O.I.S. ( office and information studies ) : Mr Ince
SCIENCE : Mr Tracey
ENGLISH : Mr McGuire, Mrs Wilson and Miss Houseman
MUSIC : Miss Wilson
P.E. : Mr Millar, Mrs Millar, Mr Drumgulle and the great Mr Black.
TECHNICAL DRAWING : Mr Docherty (whom you may know now as a news reporter for Scotland Today and several other T.V. programmes.
BIOGRAPY : Mrs Thompson (i think she was Welsh, great teacher)
PRINCIPAL :Mr Oates
DEPUTY : Mr Skivington
ENGLISH again : Miss Wren ( wolf whistle lol )

Before I go I would just like to add a little message to any of the teachers whom I have mentioned and whose eyes may come across this message : I John McLaughlin did enjoy every second of every minute of every hour of every day getting taught by the most experienced teachers I have ever known, and although it did not show during class time, I was listening and paying attention and your teachings were flawless THANKYOU : ) just a couple of teachers that have just sprang to mind and more than deserve a say here.

ENGLISH : Mr Paterson and Miss Moore
HISTORY : The great Harry Sheerer
MATHS : Mrs Bridie

If I have missed any teacher out I do apologise however they were all great and I'm glad thatIi went to this most desirable school. If anyone recognises my name or that year could they please give me an E-Mail at johntarragon@hotmail.co.uk - would be most appreciated.

I just wanted to pass on to the school the sad news of the death of my younger brother Kevin Stirling.
Kevin would have been a pupil from the very late 70`s into the early 80,s.He turned 42 on the 7th February,he died in the British Military Hospital in Accra Ghana on Sunday 24th February. He took ill while on holiday. He was a real kind caring soul, one of the worlds nice guys.

a post from another "Old Boy" I have very fond memories of the 6 years spent there at the "Old School" volleyball, cross country with Corrieri,Docherty,Harrower, Kelly (Owen) Pollock,Kennedy,et al,Not forgetting the head of art, Sean Byrne who set me off on my career in interior design, what a truly guiding and thoughtful teacher.Parties, six foot high Oor Wullie on the wall of the common room, and gatecrashing "older" parties, them were the days. Now based in Glasgow and proprietor of an interior design practice/showroom, so,the art department IS an important part of life at St. Modans, enjoy it, and the new school looks fantastic, wonder what the interior will look like?

Hi Alexander.
Thanks for posting your enquiry. You're probably talking about www.friendsreunited.co.uk but hopefully you'll now use the school website and encourage others to do the same.

As this is our last year at Barnsdale Road a number of events will be organised in the coming months to remember the good old days and look forward to the new school at Forthbank. Keep logging on here to find out what's happening and keep in touch!

Attended a parents evening tonight where interest in a dinner dance in June 2008 was being guaged and although I am not a former pupil, my in-laws and their relations are. As not everyone is internet friendly I suggest that for the more senior ex pupils an advertisement be placed in the Falkirk Herald and Cumbernauld and Kilsyth Chronicle as Kilsyth was in Stirling region then. I don't know what publications are available for the Hillfoots or whatever other catchment area the school had in the past but they should be considered too. Former pupils might not be fit enough to attend a dance but may appreciate an opportunity to visit the school.

St Modan's 1965 - 67. I am in the process of joining forces with another ex pupil of the same era (Maggi Donnelly) to gather members of our class for a reunion. I am in Kent and Maggi is in Portugal. We are both keen to arrange something in Scotland, and when could be better than next year as you all change from old to new school.

We need help in locating ex pupils, and we are open to suggestions and assistance regarding venue and theme. We are not yet wrinklies and a school disco may be a good place to re-unite.

Please feel free to contact me with any information which could be of assistance to our cause.

The school photos are being relocated to a website called 'Flickr'. Past photos are being exported to that website over the next few days. When complete the 'School Photos' link on the 'Learn All About Us' page will direct you to our new location.

Flickr is a Yahoo company created to replace Yahoo Photos and should offer a better service than before. Worth the wait, hopefully!

Hi there! I attended St. Modans from around 1991 (I think) and loved every moment it - really is one of the best schools around! I loved art with Mrs McMenemy, have fab memories of PE with Mrs Miller and will never forget History with Mr Sheerin - he made it so great that I even became a History teacher at Bannockburn High school. Believe it or not my eldest daughter Robyn is now in S1 and I love the fact that so many of the old teachers are still there - hopefully she will experience the great times which I did.
I think the site for the new school is great - the kids are exceptionally lucky and should make the most of their new facilities. Anyway keep up the great work - Mr. Lennon and all the deputes are doing fantastic jobs and congrats on an impressive website !!! :)

Missin the school. Gutted we never got invited back to the senior dance last year! You let the team down on that one! As an ex-pupil, in the seventies, and ex-head boy, I welcome the idea of a final extravaganza before the move to the new site. I have very fond memories of my time at St.Modans, particularly the extra-curricular activities. History and Running with Mr Shearer, Maths and table-tennis with Mr Lafferty, The PE dept headed up by Mr Black. The science faculty was inspirational particularly Miss Mc Monagle and Mrs Olzyck (sp) in biology. A great school and a great website.

Hello - Interesting that you are moving! I went to St Modans in the early 60's. 1964? I was Patricia Brown at that time. My twin sister Ann attended also. Mr McCann was the headmaster. I played hockey for the 1st eleven. I have travelled back and forth from Australia where I live now and always looked on St Modans in a nice nostalgic way.
My happiest times there was when I was playing hockey. Good luck in your ventures.

Hello St Modan's. Here's a thought for you - why don't you organise a great big party for all ex-pupils to celebrate the last year in the old building. Perhaps a disco suitable for the young and old with music from each of the 7 decades since the school opened. I think I know a few who would like to be there!

I wonder what others think! Maybe we should start the debate using this guestbook.

Hya all. I went to St.Modans in the late 70s. I loved it, had a great laugh & learnt a lot . I had to travel from Denny so my favourite time was the winter when our school bus couldn't get through the snow and had to go home . My favourite teacher of all time was Mr Shearer for history . And dont run in the corridors I ended up with a WHOPPER of a black eye when I crashed into someone - not that I was eager to get to my next class. It was 3.30 on a Friday and running for my bus. Have FUN all of you xxx love Anjie Brereton

As St Modans most memorable ever pupil, who wore a Santa suit to school in the middle of October and was known on nickname terms by most teachers, aswell as the scorer of the football team's best-ever goal, I deserve at least a photo on the page! if someone from the school can get in touch I will be happy to send one! Also, please show this to Mr McAvoy, Mr Quigley and Mr McGeehan and let them know that they are all legends!!

Just wanted to say a very big WELL DONE on a truly inspirational concert last night.
The variety and quality made for a very entertaining evening.I have attended many school concerts over the years and have never been so impressed. You should all be very proud of yourselves.

The end product was very professional and indeed worthy of the prestigious setting.
Congratulations to you all.

WISHING YOU ALL VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS and a SUCCESSFUL YEAR 2007.

St Modans is a great school and all the teachers are very nice. My best subject is PE. This is a good subject because it is very good fun and the teacher is very good. I also like the school because of all the friends I have made. One of my best friends is David Cook and he is one of my best friends because he is funny. I also like the heads.

It's a real pity that last year's S6 pupils cannot attend this years Senior Dance because of the new venue but great that the fire didn't result in the event being cancelled. It's a great night and will be really good in the castle. I hope all the fifth and sixth year's make the most of it and have a brill time.

I think the website could be improved by adding a forum and games.
Also I think the road for the new school should be: Academy road
