17 Oct 2007 - Stand Up Against Poverty Day

St Modan's marked the 'Stand Up Against Poverty' Day in a BIG way this year.

As well as inviting everyone to make a pledge, Mr Massey, PT PSD Chaplaincy & RE arranged for seven overseas workers from SCIAF to visit the school on Wednesday, 17 October to take part in a varied range of class sessions and speak to pupils. This was a unique opportunity for pupils and teachers to meet and talk to people from three different continents on this Global Day of Action against Poverty. The visitors were:

- Raquel Cruz from Cesta, El Salvador, with 15 years experience of campaigning on envirionmental issues;
- Sister Josephine Zihalirwa from the Justice & Peace Commission, Democratic Republic of Congo;
- Jean Claude Ngendandumwe, Program Manager at Justice Peace in Rwanda;
- Father Cyprian Ocen, Gulu Justice & Peace, Uganda;
- Mr P Narayanappa, Chief Executive of Prakruthi India;
- Mr Gopinath and Mr Lingappa from the Association of People with Disabilities, India who are involved in ensuring education for children with disabilities in slums and rural communities.
