30 Jan 2008 - PTA Burns Supper

Nearly 200 guests and over 60 pupils celebrated the Bard’s birthday at the annual PTA Burns Supper which was held on Friday, 25 January, in the school Assembly Hall. Superb performances were given by dancers and reciters, which involved many pupils from all year groups.

 

 

The Haggis procession was led by Piper, James Strathie, S6 and Poosie Nancy was Molly McGuigan, S1.  Mr Thomas Dougan, PT Technical gave the Address to the Haggis.

 

 

Formal recitations were given by S6 Students and included:

 

·         A very thoughtful and well received recitation of ‘Immortal Memory’ given by Kevin McKinstry.

 

·         ‘Toast to the Lassies’ by Head Boy, Sean Griffin and Reply to the Toast by Head Girl, Eilidh Francis added laughter to the proceedings.

 

·         ‘Vote of Thanks’ given by Hailey Forrest, Depute Head Girl.

 

 

S3 pupils, gave an excellent recitation of the classic Scottish tale ‘Tam O’Shanter’.

 

 

Senior dancers performed a Latin Combi and fantastic performances of the school’s own traditional dances involved:

 

·         8 senior boys dance group – ‘The Reel of the 51st Division’.

 

·         8 senior girls dance group – A Strathspey called ‘The Pride of Stirling’.

 

 

Special thanks goes the PTA members for organising the event, teachers, support staff, Catering Service but especially the speakers, dancers, reciters, singers and musicians who contributed to the evening’s entertainment.  The school is very grateful to the kind generosity of Mr Kenny Tragham, Manager of Morrison’s Supermarket (and soon to be neighbours) for supplying all the Irn Bru, shortbread and water free of charge.

 

The following students were congratulated for the design and creation of the Latin costumes: Roishann McGuire, Hayley O’Hanlon & Aaron Speed, assisted by the Junior Textile Club and Mrs Audrey McMenemy, Teacher of Art & Design who was also responsible for the design & decoration of the Hall.

 

 

Thanks also to Mr Paterson & the English Department, Mrs Millar & the PE Department and Mr Boyce & the Music Department for their valuable time in preparing the pupils for this successful event.
