Our Faculty structure was designed to reflect pre-dispositions of pupils - we now have a Faculty which includes all the Arts, Culture and Health related subjects (Art and Design, Music, PE and Home Economics); a Faculty which includes Maths, Science and Technology (Computing and Technical subjects) and a Faculty in which all the 'language' based subjects - English, Modern Languages, RE and Social Subjects are together called Language and Society.
The thinking behind this structure stems from the notion that children bring to their Secondary Education certain areas in which they are confident and in which their aptitudes predominately lie. Therefore children may be more able in one or other of these three broad curricular areas - the creative and aesthetic area as described by our faculty of Arts, Culture and Health - the Maths, Science and Technology area or the Language and Society area. Our thinking is that if the school reflects these in a coherent manner then the curriculum and courses should be developed to the point where there are opportunities for the children to work in the areas of their predominant strengths. When we move to our new school in session 2007-08, the design of our new school building will reflect these faculty groupings with a wing of the new school being devoted to each Faculty.
